All along Norfolk Street you'll find multiple old Kauri villas from the early years of Whangarei. At the northern end where Norfolk Street meets Aubrey Street, you'll find two beautiful Kauri villas. We are the white and green one.

Since moving into 13 Aubrey Street in March 1969, we have been making numerous replacements, upgrades, renovations, refurbishments and adjustments to maintain the villas historic feel and appearance. But recently, we've focused on taking the villa's interior back to the early 20th century.

This project has been spearheaded by our very own committee member and in house director Kirsten Parker-Van Eck. The project, encompassing the dining room, bar, water closets, hallway/entrance and theatre space itself, will give our space the look of a 100-year villa and function of a modern performance venue.

And already we are half-way done! Our theatre space has been given a cozy green repaint. The water closets also had a fresh coat of paint and given a much-needed revitalising. And finally, our hallway/entrance has been painted, wallpapered, paneled and relit to give that early 20th century classic look!

We won't get into the nitty gritty, but changing these spaces to the interior design masterpiece it now is has been no easy feat. Long tedious professional and volunteer hours, 100s of litres of paint and 2 separate trips to the tip are just a few of the things that have been going on to make results happen.

But the job isn't over yet. we still have the bar, and the large dining room left to go. So, fingers crossed, by the midwinter show comes around we'll have a brand-new dining room for you to view in total awe though out a 3-course meal.
